About the 63rd

What do Scouts do?

Scouts is where young people make new friends, have amazing adventures, and learn new skills.

Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers. Yes, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing. But we also get to hang out with new friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in a team and taking on new challenges.

As Scouts, we believe in preparing young people with skills for life. We encourage young people to do more, learn more and be more. Each week, we help over 460,000 young people aged 6-25 enjoy fun and adventure while developing the skills they need to succeed, now and in the future.

We’re talking about teamwork, leadership and resilience – skills that have helped Scouts become everything from teachers and social workers to astronauts and Olympians. We help young people develop and improve key life skills.

We believe in bringing people together. We celebrate diversity and stand against intolerance, always. We’re part of a worldwide movement, creating stronger communities and inspiring positive futures.

Everyone’s welcome here. All genders, races and backgrounds. Regardless of your physical or mental ability – there’s a Scout adventure out there waiting for you. And we’ll help you find it.

All about badges

Our badges and awards are part of what makes us Scouts. And Scouts love earning them!

Animal lover – check. Bookworm – check. Photographer – check. Footballer – check. Daredevil – check. You name it, we’ve got a badge for it – over 200 of them actually. Scouts work together on badges at their weekly meetings, away at camps and events or at home. Badges are easy to earn and you don’t usually need anyone special to sign them off.

There’s never any pressure to do badges. Scouts can do as many or as few as they like. But for those up for a challenge, there are loads of exciting badges to aim for, such as the Chief Scout’s Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards – these are the highest awards that Beavers, Cubs and Scouts can earn. And for those going even further, the King’s Scout Award is the top achievement for young people in Scouts.
